Dance Classes for All Ages/Abilities

 

Mommy & Me

Ages 18 months - 3

Mommy & Me is a fun session designed with parent-toddler interaction in mind. This program is focused on movement, coordination, balance, rhythm, stretching, basic kinetic skills, levels and shapes for your little one. The class is set to music and will feature basic dance steps in ballet, jazz, and tumbling. Repetition is essential for mastering dance techniques and with Mom, Dad or a caregiver as a part of the class experience where students will feel safe and secure, allowing for a strong foundation for future learning.

Creative Dance

Age 3

Creative dance is an introduction to movement and musical skills for young children. They will be guided through basic ballet, exploratory and creative movement. Props such as scarves, musical instruments and visual aids are used to develop coordination and explore the wonders of movement. Independent thinking, gross motor skills, and creative expression are focus of this fun class.

Introduction to Dance

Ages 4-5

This class consists of pre-ballet and tap, using activity songs and exercises that teach dance terminology; basic rhythm patterns and self-expression; and an introduction to classical music. The class focus is on the development of coordination, concentration, listening skills and self confidence; for learning teamwork, cooperation and positive interaction. The classes are structured and paced for the young learner in a LOVING, NURTURING environment. A FUN introduction to the JOY of dance.

Ballet/Tap Combo

Ages 6-7

Introduction to ballet and tap. Focusing on the development of coordination, self expression, listening skills, concentration, memory and self confidence through dance activities that are specific in their objectives, and FUN for the children. The class stimulates physical, emotional and intellectual growth and a beginning appreciation of classical music as well as fostering social skills in a loving environment that exemplifies the JOY of dance.

Jazz/Hip-Hop Combo Classes

Ages 6-7

Our goal for the jazz/hip-hop classes is to lay a good foundation in jazz technique, while exposing the students to a variety of styles, such as Broadway & classic as well as the latest trends in hip-hop choreography. The technique will develop greater body awareness, flexibility, strength & control. The choreography will further develop musicality style and performance personality. From this fun, high energy class, a student may continue to study jazz with a good base to build on or they may choose to follow today’s latest craze in hip hop.

Ballet Classes

Ages 8 & up

Ballet is the foundation of all other dance forms. Body placement, flexibility, balance, alignment, strength and technique are achieved through barre and center floor work.
Students will begin understanding the relationship between music, rhythm and controlled movement with proper ballet technique.

Tap Classes

Ages 8 & up

Tap Dance classes begin with & warm up exercises in the center that increase control, coordination, and rhythm, followed by across the floor exercises that teach dynamics, shading, phrasing, and musicality, concluding with extended rhythmic phrases and improvisation exercises. The goal is to develop tap dancers that are equally strong musicians, dancers, and performers.

Jazz Classes

Ages 8 & up

These classes teach the technique of jazz dance through turns, leaps, rolls, jumps and runs. The class includes a warm-up with stretching, isolations, strengthening exercises and "across the floor." The class ends with a fast-paced combination.

Hip-Hop Classes

Ages 8 & up

Learn the hottest new dance moves from your favorite hip hop/rnb/pop videos and original choreography. Hip Hop encompasses movement that has elements of poppin', locking, and breaking as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style.

Boys Hip-Hop Class

Ages 6 & up

Dancers will work on hip-hop combinations, basic isolations, body rolls, and hip hop footwork. Students will learn break dancing skills including ground rocks, freeze poses, tricks and be instructed on how to build break dance combinations. This class will also include upper body strength training and abdominal work.

Irish Step

Ages 7 & up

Irish performance dancing is traditionally referred to as stepdance. Footwork is learned in this exciting class, as well as proper body alignment. The focus will fall on turnout, posture, simple steps, and understanding different types of music. Students will learn sevens, 1-2-3s, two reel steps, two jig steps, and performance pieces.

Level I will work in soft shoe and Level II will work with both soft & hard shoe.

Acro Dance

Ages 8 & up

Acro dance is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character and its use of acrobatics in a dance. Acro is an especially challenging dance style for dancers as it requires them to be trained in both dance and acrobatic skills. Therefor, it should not replace a tumbling class but only be used in addition to enhance flexibilty and contortions.

Lyrical Classes

Ages 9 & up

Learn music interpretation through sustained extensions and expressive emotion. Lyrical is a type of dance that relies on a direct relationship between the lyrics of various songs/poems and specific dance movements. Must have at least one year of prior ballet (Level I or above) experience.

Adult Classes

Ages 18 & up

Adult Hip Hip

This class teaches rhythm, coordination, musicality, and hip hop choreography. Students are challenged to think on their feet while enjoying an energetic and fast-paced dance class. Our Hip Hop dancers develop focus, strength, and agility while having fun.
